It played well, but with the new urban setting and the loss of some of the series’ most recognisable characters, it almost felt as though Shang was an updated version that brought back classic characters like Scorpion, Reptile and Kitana and added more diverse stage backgrounds, making it considerably more appealing than the original version. In the summer of 1997, it was one of the games I most wanted for my newly acquired Mega Drive.
