Boom Gate Gallery

1300 Anzac Parade, Malabar 2036. (02) 9289-2077.   H Thurs–Sun 9.00 to 3.00. The Boom Gate Gallery was established in 1992 and operates as a professional gallery selling inmates’ work. It enables inmates to access art materials, and they are entitled to produce work for sale. The works are available to the public at reasonable prices. The Gallery promotes initiatives that further the public appreciation of prison art. The practice of art in many of the prisons at Long Bay, including, for instance, the Violence Prevention Unit, provides an avenue for disciplined, patient, thoughtful, and socially acceptable behaviour. We have worked exhibition. Inmates receive 75% of all sales, and this can be accessed by their families. There is a constantly changing display of works at the Gallery as well as exhibitions held offsite, including the University of Sydney and the Downing Centre.
