THE UK’s longest 12in gauge railwayis being helped by the country’s fastestline to help combat climate change.
The Hillingdon-based Ruislip Lido Railway Society Limited has been given £75,000 by High Speed 2’s Community and Environment Fund to convert its 1990-built Severn Lamb diesel mechanical Bo-Bo No.to low-carbon battery power. The locomotive currently has a 4.5-litre Perkins engine, and its conversion is part of the society’s wider drive to reduce noise pollution and remove CO₂ emissions.
