T-STOPS AND F-STOPS – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

might be wondering about the T-stops and how they’re different from f-stops. The T stands for “transmission” and the T-stop – also called a T-number – is a measure of exactlybecause the camera’s built-in metering takes care of it, but the variations in exposure will be noticeable when shooting video using different lenses and different camera angles. T-stops – which are the result of actually testing the transmittance of a lens – ensure exposure consistency from shot to shot no matter what… T2.0 is always T2.0 regardless of the lens. Incidentally, testing the transmittance of a lens is quite a lengthy and costly exercise which generally isn’t worth undertaking with a photography lens because the f-stop is near enough to be good enough.
