Slice and Dice

DAVE Best, owner of Gravel Motor Garage in Tauranga, often slices sections out of the roof of a vehicle to improve the flow lines. Dave recently did just that to his own 1948 Chrysler Coupe. Many coupes from the 1940s had a “bulge” in the roof to accommodate rear seat passengers wearing a hat. Think of Ford’s 1946-48 Club Coupe as another example. Dave thought that by removing the bulge and laying the rear window on more of an angle would greatly improve the look of the car. We think he is right; maybe that’s how they should have left the factory.
