F1 in Schools, for students aged nine to 19, is one of the UK’s largest competitions in STEM – that’s science, technology, engineering and maths.
The contest at its core is simple: teams design and make a miniature F1 car to be propelled by a compressed gas cartridge down a 20-metre track against the clock. But as we know from Formula 1 proper, designing and manufacturing things to be faster than everyone else is far from simple.
So F1 in Schools is about seeking the next generation of engineering talent. But even so it’s about much more, as it is a holistic challenge. Teams also raise sponsorship, market themselves, develop a project management plan, perform a verbal
