My first experience with sewing, like many others, was in high school. It was there that I first learned how to thread a machine, pin and sew a straight seam, and to stay away from the overlocker. Sewing those first few projects – a pencil case and pyjama shorts, no less – I found that I actually enjoyed sewing. That was until we advanced to working with a traditional pattern…

Complex terminology, technical diagrams and outdated designs took all the fun and creativity out of it for me. It introduced a ‘this is right’ and ‘this is wrong’
