Shallow tillage: Cutting edge

Moisture-saving, ground-friendly, cost-effective techniques for soil cultivation and sowing" was the title of the working demo held by the Chamber of Agriculture of Lower Saxony near Hanover. The following implements were tucked into the site’s cereal stubble for a wide-ranging comparison:

• Two mulchers• 19 shallow cultivators• Four short disc/chain disc harrows from these firms: Lemken, Väderstad, Amazone, Kelly, Dalbo• Two rotavators: Maschio SC Pro 280 Bio and Sicma RG280 Bio• Two grubbers• Two shallow ploughs: Kverneland Ecomat and Ovlac Mini-NF 7+2• Five straw harrows and stubble rollers• Eight toppers and direct drills.
