This Month: Antique money boxes

It's a human instinct to save money – to hoard for a rainy day. Sentiments were no different in the Ancient World, the oldest Western money box (so far discovered) dates from the 2nd century BC and comes from the Greek city of Priene, found today in modern-day Turkey. It's rather architectural: a miniature temple with a classical pediment and a slot to insert coins.
