DESERT LIGHTS WINTJIRI WIRU

There’s a chill in the air, but no-one on this platform is feeling it. Instead we are all gazing transfixed into the night, where mulga trees appear to be on fire. The trees are real, but the fire is not – it’s a video projection that is part of Wintjiri Wiru, a dazzling sound and light show that harnesses the latest technology to tell one of the oldest stories on the planet.

Using lasers, video projections and 1200 drones and – which means ‘beautiful view out to the horizon’ in the Pitjantjatjara language – tells the Mala story of the local Anangu people, using the desert as a canvas.
