I'veoften heard it said that you can tell the schools have broken up because the weather changes for the worse, and so far, this has been the case for us in southwest Scotland. Term ended for the kiddies about four weeks ago, and since the holidays began, we’ve had just a handful of dry days. Tonight, we’re in a caravan a few miles from Penrith. The sound of rain on a caravan roof is so evocative of the English summer, having spent many a childhood holiday sheltering from the weather in rather less elaborate accommodation than this swanky mobile home. Today, however, it’s been predominantly dry, and fingers crossed, it’ll stay that way for the weekend, as we’re here in Penrith for Potfest in the Park.
