Special relationship

Growing up the son of a Porsche parts man from one of the world’s better known Porsche dealerships, Brumos Porsche, you might have thought Robert Kennedy’s vehicle of choice would be closer to Stuttgart than Wolfsburg in its origins.

Turns out even the influence of famed racing drivers, Peter Gregg (four-time Daytona 24-hours winner) and Hurley Haywood (five-time Daytona and three time Le Mans winner) was still not enough to deter Robert from his first love – Volkswagen.

“I don’t know what to tell you,” laughs Robert. “I was just five years old and I vividly remember a black Beetle with an obnoxiously loud exhaust speeding up and down the street I lived on.

“It belonged to my older sister’s friend, David Vogel, who, ironically, is one of my best friends today.”
