Fifties Chevy pick-ups might be more popular in Britain today than they ever have been, but original ones are surprisingly thin on the ground. Original in this sense does not necessarily mean ‘exactly as it left the factory’, but simply unrestored and unmodified: not sitting on airbags, not wearing aftermarket wheels or simulated patina, and not even the beneficiary of a shiny restoration. We’re talking about trucks preserved as they were during their hard-working lives of 60 or 70 years ago. Clive Brett is the custodian of one, and he’s sworn to keep it that way.
