IT WAS approaching 2am on Sunday morning by the time Anthony Joshua sat down to discuss his seventh-round demolition of Robert Helenius and the Deontay Wilder encounter which will hopefully now follow.

But, considering the glorious climax to what had been an otherwise uneventful fight, and the era-defining clash that might be his reward for doing so, this was not a buoyant or joyful Joshua. In fact, there have been happier losers.

“I am going to be honest, right,” said Joshua, from behind a pair of sunglasses. “I am not going to answer any negative questions. I have no interest in conversing about any more negativity. I just want to hear some positive stuff.”

That response, unusual but also understandable, came in response to a question about the boos that rang around the O2 Arena as early as the third round against Helenius.
