It is Sunday morning at Chateau Dear, and I am sitting at the kitchen table with many bits of paper and a pocket calculator. I am trying to make sense of the Ladies’ Cricket Club accounts, for which I was volunteered on the grounds that Mr Dear is the honorary treasurer of the men’s team.
In theory, this should be very simple indeed. All I have to do is make sure that our income – from subscriptions, and sponsorship from the wicketkeeper’s family building company – is enough
