With improvements to the brake system underway, albeit somewhat postponed (see April issue), it’s time to address some of the CX’s handling woes. They were never renowned for fine handling, but this is worse than most. The obvious first step is to bin the original and hopeless FVQ twin shocks and fit something that actually works, so my first port of call is Hagon. Yes, I could go for something fancier, but I’ve had good results with Hagon kit in the past and anyway, there’s only so much a pair of shocks can do on their own... I go for their 2810 shocks – not especially cheap at £276 a pair, but nicely finished and chosen for their adjustable damping, where the cheaper ‘classic’ versions are non-adjustable.

The only slight snag is the shocks turn up with the same sized bushes in both lower
