Well, that worked out well – not! What I naively thought was low compression in the motor turned out to be just the kick-start mechanism dragging some cogs around.

The pistons are stuck firm in the bores and they don’t appear to be influenced by the kicker; to compound this there’s a marked reluctance to select gears. Although the lever is missing a carefully applied mole grip confirms we have two things – nothing and naff all!

Looking a little deeper, and I really don’t want to get inside one of these motors. There’s a selector cover on the outside of the motor which appears to be only loosely connected to the shaft behind and, being frank, I’m rapidly losing interest in what is now yet another example of the infamous paralysed parallel-twin.
