A few pages back, when we said that higher-end soundbars had made us rethink a previously negative attitude to soundbars, there was one soundbar in particular which made that change. It was from Sennheiser, called just the ‘AMBEO’, and was so large it didn’t require a subwoofer.
That soundbar is now called the AMBEO Max, because Sennheiser has now created this smaller bar, the AMBEO Plus. This can also be used alone, but it gains in substance from the addition of the new AMBEO Sub. Alone it is $2400, while the combo is $3520 — high for a soundbar system, but that’s almost the point. If a soundbar fits your needs, but you don’t want to compromise your sound, this is where to look.

The Sennheiser that makes this new ‘Plus’ soundbar is really now Sonova, branded as ‘Sennheiser Hearing’. Sonova is a Swiss group that specialises in hearing care; it bought the consumer division of Sennheiser a few years ago, and in response to our queries it indicates that the various former Sennheiser teams remain working within Sennheiser’s headquarters, so no changes as yet for the research and design group. Hence this new product is
