New LSA Rules to revolutionise Aircraft Manufacture

In a move that looks sure to shake up the aircraft manufacturing industry, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a pre-publication version of a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that will redefine light sport aircraft.

The 318-page NPRM was released in the lead-up to EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh in late July.

Known as the Modernisation of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC), the NPRM is intended to permit manufacturers to take advantage of new technology and safety features without the constraints of the current LSA definition and the costs of full certification to FAR Part 23.
