It’s difficult to imagine that this most stately and exquisitely dressed of family homes in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has lived so many entirely different and, in some cases, less glamorous, lives. Yet, in centuries past, the 1889 Italianate abode has been everything from a boarding house to a boutique hotel and, most recently, a childcare centre. In fact, when the owners first saw the house in 2019, it had been stripped of almost all its original features, having just closed its doors after 40 years in operation as a preschool.
