Farmers fear attacks after EFF chant

The Equality Court does not believe the Struggle-era song, “Kill the boer, kill the farmer,” constitutes hate speech, but farmers are feeling threatened.

Julius Malema, the leader of the EFF, led the singing of the song during the party’s recent 10th-anniversary celebration at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Close to 100 000 people were in the stadium while millions more viewed it online.

Fruit and vegetable farmers in KwaZulu-Natal said they were already vulnerable to attacks and such songs put their lives at greater risk.
