‘Roles reversed’ was the theme of this year’s GMTK Jam, inspiring a string of clever entries from established indies. Patrick (of fame) Traynor’s in which you play the jam’s host, using game data to produce a highlights video, is ingenious, and we lost an hour of deadline week to this diverting twist on the music’re a teacher grading flautists during a sight-reading exercise: a gramophone parps out five notes which they must match, as you use the arrow keys to determine where they diverged from the correct pitch and tempo. After three tunes your own grading will be assessed, affecting the academy’s reputation. The pupils’ incredulous reaction to your below-par performance alone makes it worth playing.
