KATIE HEBBLEWHITE AND KIM ZENK
We have spent our lives creating from a very early age. Kim remembers her Grandma Norma (who was also her third-grade teacher) talking about child artists. She said children in the first through third grades will all say they are good at art. Of those in the fourth through sixth grades a few less say they are good at art. And by adulthood, society has trained most to believe that they are not creative. “Not true,” Norma reported, “we all are creative in some way!”
And she was right! Creating may include gardening, setting a beautiful table, or cooking and serving with style. Consider how you dress and the colors and patterns you choose. Enjoying music or playing an instrument is also creating. Do you enjoy taking photos, whether of the sunrise or sunset or beautiful rainbows and frosty mornings? Creativity comes in all shapes and forms. We just happen to love teaching and sharing our love of wool appliqué. Try it—you just might find a new creative outlet, and you will probably be hooked!
