HELLO, CLEVELAND?

Stewart Tray [Feedback, Take 316] writes about remembering a stellar lineup at Montreux Festival in 1975 featuring Mingus et al. It reminded me of attending the Cleveland International Jazz Festival in 1978, at Middlesbrough football ground, over three days. The lineup included George Melly, Bill Evans, Lionel Hampton, Georgie Fame, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Chris Barber, Art Blakey, Ella Fitzgerald, Marion Montgomery, Freddie Hubbard, Oscar Peterson and more. Some lineup! I’ve still got the programme.

Do any other Uncut readers remember this? There doesn’t seem to be any film of it anywhere.
