My man leaves a bad taste

Q My new boyfriend’s semen doesn’t taste like my last partner’s. Are all men different or is something wrong?

Stacey, Burgess Hill

A guy’s semennatural sugars, enzymes and vitamins give it a characteristic taste which might range from salty to bitter, metallic or sweet. The taste does vary from one guy to another and might also change in the same guy. Illness or infection, smoking, excess alcohol, drugs including some antibiotics, dehydration or diseases, such as diabetes, can all affect semen taste. The food he eats probably has an effect too and some partners find that onions, garlic, broccoli and asparagus make semen taste bad. A distinctly foul taste, a discharge from his penis or discoloured green semen mean he should be checked for sexually acquired infection. Otherwise, his taste is simply another aspect of who he is!
