Beg and ending rows as indicated, work 14 rows in patt from Chart A, ending with RS facing for next row.

Change to 4mm needles.

Beg with a K row, now work in st st as folls: Inc 1 st at each end of 5th (7th:7th:9th:9th: 11th:11th:13th) and every foll 12th row until there are 103 (113:123:133:143:153:163:173) sts.

Cont straight until Back measures 31½ (32:32½:33:33½:34:35:36) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

95 (105:115:125:135:145:155:165) sts.

Dec 1 st at each end of next and foll 5 alt rows.

83 (93:103:113:123:133:143:153) sts.

Work 1 row, ending with RS facing for next row.

Work 4 rows in garter stitch, ending with RS facing for next row.

Beg and ending rows as indicated, repeating the 6-row patt rep throughout, now work in patt from Chart B as folls: Cont straight until armhole measures 24½ (26:27½:29:30½:32:33:34) cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

SHAPE BACK NECK

Next row (RS): Patt 29 (33:37:42:46:50:55: 59) sts and turn, leaving rem sts on a holder.

Work each side of neck separately.

Keeping patt correct, dec 1 st at neck edge of next 4 rows and AT THE SAME TIME cast
