Atmospheric Memory

What impact does our captures multiple ways in which we inhabit the atmosphere as a physical and social medium. This exploration – inspired by the writings of nineteenth century computer pioneer and philosopher Charles Babbage, who believed the air surrounding us to be a “vast library” containing every sound, motion and word spoken – welcomes us into an immersive environment and multisensory experience at the intersection of art and science through works including a voice-controlled fountain where spoken words become clouds of text floating in mid-air; a room with over 3,000 different sound channels, each with its own field recording; a voice-controlled robotic light beacon; and the world’s first 3D-printed speech bubble, alongside fifty theme-related objects from the Powerhouse Museum’s collection.
