HERE is no getting away from the fact that there are no easy solutions to the problem of building hundreds of thousands of new houses quickly in the UK. When the Government addressed this issue last week, therefore, the proposals it made predictably generated controversy., he intends to focus resources ‘where demand for new development is highest’. That involves promoting the redevelopment of brownfield sites in towns and cities, facilitating the conversion of retail property into housing and promising owners ‘generous rights to extend their homes upwards and outwards’.
