The Crepe Paper Bridal Party

I don’t remember whose idea it was. At first, our Halloween plan was to dress as Southern belles, or “bellies,” as my friend Elsie pronounced it. The rest of us giggled and made fun of her for that. Then, to make up for hurting her feelings, someone had the idea of dressing up as a wedding party with Elsie as the bride.

All of this was in preparation for the annual community parade, one ofthat wound through the nearby streets. It ended back at the fire hall with treats and refreshments for everyone, and special prizes for the few lucky children with outstanding costumes.
