Upcycling Textiles

In a basket in my study, I have a collection of old tablecloths and doilies that my grandmother embroidered. Meticulously handsewn, discoloured in places but very much treasured, they sit alongside an antique sari, some Laura Ashley offcuts and vintage Colefax florals that I found in a charity shop. I will use all of them at some point, but to what purpose is currently unknown.

Vintage textiles draw us in. They tell us a story of a person or a creative process. In some cases, they literally bear the marks of the maker in tiny stitches
