TJ TWINS T

The Bedford TJ range of bonneted normal-control trucks was launched in September 1958, with a deep, single piece curved windscreen (except on some van bodies). Also known as the J-Type (the ‘T’ in ‘TJ’ signifying ‘Truck’), they replaced the short-lived split windscreen D-Types of 1957 which were themselves a mildly restyled version of the earlier A-Types that had appeared in 1953.

Like their predecessors, the TJ trucks were quite American influenced in their design. They covered payloads from 25cwt up to 7-tons, plus an eight ton tractor unit. Tight turning circles, low platform heights, thanks to 16in wheels being fitted on models up to four tons, and a sloping bonnet made them popular with drivers.
