The love for a particular scooter often creeps up unannounced, and before any conscious decision’s been made the unwitting enthusiast opens their garage door to find a small collection facing them. That’s not the case with Paul, who can recall with pinpoint accuracy how his love affair with Moto Rumi began. “I was 10 years old and my dad, who was an engineer with Rolls-Royce, had taken me to Richmond Park boating pond with my model yacht,” he began. “Suddenly I heard a buzzing sound, it was the most fantastic noise. I looked up from the pond and saw this beautiful machine zip past. I asked my dad what it was, and he identified it as an air cooled, two-stroke twin, Moto Rumi scooter. I told him that when I got older I was going to have one.”
