THE SCOTTISH POPULATION of western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) has increased for the first time in eight years, reports the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA).
The results from this spring's capercaillie lek counts found19 male birds with six more leks occupied than last year.
