GAMEBIRDS
MY LOVE of hill partridges began with the collared hill partridge (Arborophila gingica) years ago when I worked with them at Harewood Bird Garden. Something about their rotund looks, interesting behaviours and endearing personalities just took me. Although I'd been interested in Galliformes, it was the collared which pushed me over the edge. Some time after that, I attended a World Pheasant Association (WPA) Conservation Breeding Advisory Group meeting, and that was that. I was hooked.
Here, a number of years later, I am working with a different species of hill partridge. This is thanks to the generosity of the WPA, who funded my flights to Surabaya with their travel grant fund to get me to my voluntary placement at Prigen Conservation Breeding Ark in Java,
