DR ANSHU Padayachee will be remembered for her advocacy work and pivotal role in the women’s rights movement in South Africa. The 69-year-old activist died last Wednesday, after a long illness.
At the time of her death, Padayachee was CEO of the Technological Higher Education Network South Africa (Thensa), which represents a consortium of technology-focused universities and institutions.
Before that, she was CEO of the South Africa–Netherlands Research Programme on Alternatives in Development (Sanpad), a bilateral research programme between South Africa and the Netherlands.
She also served as academic deputy vice-chancellor at the then ML Sultan Technikon (now DUT) and acting vice-chancellor of the same institution.
She had been involved in management, teaching and research at universities for three decades. She obtained her Master’s degree cum laude, a D.Phil in Criminology,
