From Cornwall, we took the A30 to Launceston and then the A388 to nearby Venn Farm and beyond to Weare Giffard, near Bideford. From here the A39 and A361 lead to Braunton, staying nine nights on CLs in mid July

Inspired by the chance to watch wild beavers at a caravan site, I decided on a summer holiday which took my wife, Sarah, and me to Devon. Sarah actually didn't realise that she wanted to watch beavers, but, once she had seen a beaver kit in the flesh, she quickly fell in love.

After seeing beavers, I planned to look for wildlife along part of the Tarka Trail, a 30-mile-long cycleway based on an old railway line largely along the Taw and Torridge rivers.
