What You Need To Know

1 An opaque black PRS is rare…

Yes. In fact, when we were chatting to Paul Reed Smith, he didn’t think they offered the guitar in that colour! It also comes in another opaque colour, Antique White, plus the more usual translucent ’bursts that show off the figured maple tops.

2 There aren’t too many three-pickup PRSes, either, are there?

The original Customs are the definitive PRS guitars and they always had (and still have) two humbuckers. The first three-pickup PRS was the HSS Studio in 1988, then there was the three-single-coil EG 3 and HSS EG 4 in 1990. Since then, there have been plenty, both set-neck and bolt-on, including the Silver Sky, Fiore, Studio, Special Semi Hollow and SE Silver Sky in the current 2023 line-up.

3 How many sounds can you get?

There are 17 sound options here – and while that number is high, the 2019 Private Stock Modern Eagle V actually had another switch by the volume control to simulate a 500k or 250kohm volume pot. Technically, though its effect was pretty subtle, that meant it had 34 sound options!
