I'm Karen Wilson, a features writer, @beautifulhomesinthenorth and I live with my partner, Warren Campbell, 52, a biomedical scientist. Our home is a threebed semi-detached stone-built house in Low Fell, Tyne & Wear. We moved here in November 2021.

My problem bathroom
The shower was leaking through the floor, the enamel on the cast-iron bath was flaking off, and the walls and panelling had both been painted a light blue which wasn't to my taste. There were two built-in cupboards, one of which smelt of damp, and both had gothic-style detailing that felt a bit dated.
