IT’S a relief to learn that Joan Jett still loves rock’n’roll. Currently on tour supporting Bryan Adams with her trusty band the Blackhearts, Jett confirms, “It’s a good energy. The audiences seem to like the new songs. We’re having fun as a band: smiling, laughing, exactly what it’s supposed to be.”
The new songs are from a six-track EP called “Mindsets”, a collection of uniformly uplifting rockers specifically designed to keep spirits high. “It’s a tumultuous time in world history,” she observes. “You notice the different ways that people deal with things. Some people want normalcy so bad, just to be able to go out and have a drink with their friends, even if they know shit’s coming down all around them.”
One song in particular, “(Make The Music Go) Boom”, speaks to the idea of rock’n’roll as spiritual therapy, in a nice echo of Jett’s biggest hit. “We wanted to take it back
