Rail, mail and robbery

How did you become involved in the TPO Group?

I have lived some 10 miles from the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton for nearly 60 years and occasionally took my daughter and more recently my grandchildren there for family days out.

Since 1985 I have had a close association with what is now The Postal Museum, having been the first Editor of Cross Post, the journal of its former ‘Friends’ organisation. Through that connection, I have for some years known Chris Taft, now Head of Collections at the Museum. In May 2009 I saw a report in The Bucks Herald newspaper of Chris officially opening the two TPO carriages (figure 2) that had arrived at Quainton in autumn 2007.

That led me to contacting the TPO Group and in the following year I joined the team. I happily shared my knowledge with the other stewards and later helped in extending the range of objects in the display cases and preparing more exhibition panels that line the walls.
