THE FULL EXPERIENCE…

ESTING the rifle on my rucksack, I carefully loaded it and settled into position. The mountain reedbuck were standing about 200 metres from us and were aware that something was going on. I settled the wavering crosshair on a ram while I battled to control my heart rate. The reticle’s movement remained within the ram’s vital area, so I tried to get the shot off quickly but jerked the trigger; the bullet slammed into a rock about a metre to the right” alarmed me and I reloaded in a panic, but the bolt would not close! Eventually I managed to close the bolt, but the ram had disappeared behind a bush.
