MG ZR 105 (2001-2005)
MG’s current renaissance is similar to the way in which it reinvented itself as the cool kid on the block in the early 2000s, and one of the cars that helped it achieve that status was the MG ZR. The hatchback was born from rather unadventurous stock, with its lineage clearly extending back to the ‘R3’ Rover 200 from 1995 and the subsequent Rover 25 of 1999. But by all accounts, the MG ZR was a decent effort, with stylist Peter Stevens employing a neat bodykit, smart alloys, clever colour-coding and a rear spoiler to make it look more sporting without any sheet metal changes. However, the improvements went further than just cosmetics. Chassis work included a lower ride height with stiffer springs, while uprated dampers allied to sharper steering helped transform the ZR into a driver-focused GTI rival.
