Having sold my four-year-old Nimbus 365, which I had owned from new, and bought a 16-year-old Mitchell 28, it wasn’t surprising that she needed a few tweaks and upgrades. I added around 100 engine hours during the winter of 22/23 (they had only done 365 hours when I got her) but as I planned to do a lot more cruising this summer, I was keen to make her safer, more economical and easier for a man of my age to handle.
SAFETY CONCERNS
The survey had shown that the stern glands leaked and the rubber connecting the stuffing box to the hull was in a poor state.
