Former Old Cars Editor Keith Mathiowetz used to share a truthism related to driving an old vehicle on a roadtrip: “You always come home with a better car than you left with,” he’d say. By that, he meant that you’ll likely have to repair something during the trip.
That was true when 1954 Chevrolet 3800 panel truck named “Buck” to the Tulsarama! festivities in 2007, where the buried 1957 Plymouth Belvedere was unearthed after 50 years. On that trip, Buck’s master brake cylinder had to be replaced in downtown Tulsa. We didn’t miss any festivities on that trip, and it was a minor inconvenience.
