Pick of the PATCH

Reuse Your Refuse

Eager to recycle some empty glass bottles, Sarah Ramberg of Sadie Seasongoods was inspired by their silhouettes to craft these gourd-like designs. Remove any paper labels and residue from your bottles and coat the glass with white spray primer. On a paper plate, gently swirl several orange-hued acrylic craft paints with a toothpick. Do not stir; the goal is streaky variation. Dip a small paintbrush into the paint and apply to a bottle using long, even strokes until the entire bottle is painted. Sarah mixed a slightly different orange tone for each bottle. Once the paint is dry, coat the neck with olive green paint. Hot glue the end of the jute twine to the neck of the bottle and start wrapping it around. Glue faux leaf stems in place while wrapping, and secure the end of the twine in place.
