Despatching farm animals
CULLING
Q My neighbour keeps alpacas, and unfortunately one of them has become unreliable and dangerous, chasing and attacking young family members. He has asked if I would shoot it. Can you advise how best to do this?
The safest and most practical way of despatching a large farm animal is by first confining it, if you can, within a small enclosure. Discuss this with the owner and ask whether he or she has a number of hurdles with which to make a small pen on soft, grassy ground so that they can enclose the animal. When you are ready to shoot, ask the owner to tip a small pile of the animal’s favourite food on the ground. The moment it puts its head down to eat,
