Whether it’s the joy of packing a freezer box full of beer, or emerging bleary-eyed from a campsite tent because the support races have started, the annual pilgrimage to Silverstone is the one we all love.

A = Airfield
A flat, windy area of British farmland near Buckingham was requisitioned by the Air Ministry to become RAF Silverstone during the Second World War. Two diagonal runways were built (linked by perimeter roads) and Wellington bombers were kept in hangars. The control tower still exists today – the ground floor is a shower block at the BRDC campsite. Pass the soap, Derek.
