Three-train crash in India: nearly 300 people killed
THE worst railway accident in recent years in India occurred on June 2, in the early evening, when a passenger train collided with a freight train and the wreckage hit the rear of another train passing at the same time.
The ‘Coromandel Express’ (Train 12841) from Shalimar, near Kolkata to Chennai collided with a stationary freight train carrying iron ore near Bahanaga Bazar in the north eastern state of Odisha at around 128kph (80mph), leading to a major derailment.
Another train, the ‘Bengalura – Howrah Express’ (train 12864) passing through the accident site simultaneously, running two and a half hours late, was struck by some of the ‘Coromandel Express’ carriages, causing the last few of its vehicles to
