TYSELEY Locomotive Works has been at the heart of this year’s celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Castle 4-6-0s, having two fully operational and main line certified locomotives in WR Nos. 7029 Clun Castle and 5043 Mount of Mount Edgecombe.
A week after these two Castles stormed the Lickey Incline, the works opened its doors to visitors on June 17/18, giving an opportunity to get up close to four class members present – the third in the form of No. 4079 Pendennis Castle, visiting from Didcot Railway Centre, while Tyseley-based No. 5080 Defiant was on static display.
On the Saturday morning, all four Castles were posed around the turntable. In the afternoon, the three working Castles were coupled together and performed several runpasts on the internal demonstration line alongside the shed.
Afterwards, No. 7029 was coupled up to three carriages, providing rides which were included in the entrance fee of £15 for the Saturday and £10 the Sunday. To draw the
