Greek Islands | JOURNEYS
A spontaneous dance party breaks out in front me during the final number of Persephone - a rock’n’roll retelling of the Greek myth and headline act onboard Resilient Lady. I am attending the show on the first night of a. round-trip cruise that will sail from Athens to some of the most idyllic islands in the Mediterranean.
Set in the Red Room, the multi-use theatre at the bow of the ship, Persephone is loud and energetic and takes place all around me - on the stage, on podiums with poles, a rope-climbing net and aerial slings and ropes - as I stand and sip amid the 500 revellers. This is the Virgin Voyages way: a new brand that launched in 2021 after an 18-month Covid-induced delay. Its adults-only cruises, complete with an onboard tattoo parlour, promise risque and provocative fun with attitude. It’s firmly for the young at heart.
The woman in front of me who has not moved during the entire performance suddenly joins the party, She is a one-person mosh pit surrounded by about 500 other writhing Sailors, as Virgin refers to its guests. If I were to choose an anthem for the cruise, this would be it: “I don’t care, I love it.”
